Bersa Thunder .380 one of the best low budget Walther PPK clone handgun you can get for under $400 they cost around $250-$300 new and there are different versions to choose from.Reliable,ergonomic, and accurate and .380 acp with a proper hollow point load should be good for defense.

I am picking one up at my local gun shop on Thursday it will be my carry/car gun.

Under $400... new?? I think that would be a pretty tight order. Bulgarian Makarov would be around 300 or 350, I guess. I bought one about six years ago for $150. Never had a problem with it.

You could try one of the other Makarovs or even a f*g. Can't say how good the others would be.

You can probably find a Bersa Thunder for about $400. I would go for the .40 or .45 if you go this route. I can't vouch for the quality. I heard they are pertty good.
