  1. The 10/22 ruger I own I would rather shoot than any other .22 made. It's about as accurate as a .22 can be, and extremely reliable. I'm not your average shooter either, and I don't ever use a scope on anything under 200 yards. The sights are nice on the 10/22, it's light and great to carry around, and extremely reliable. Mine has never jammed except when I ground the sear once in high school to get auto out of it (I got a new sear soon after, stupid idea).

The 10/22 is a great piece of work, and don't tell anyone, they could probably get a lot more for them if they asked it. Nothing in the price range even comes close.

My dad has a collection of .22s and I've shot most of them, we are talking around 60 some old restored guns, newer, expensive, cheap, and I still like the 10/22 much better.

  2. Ruger 10/22

  3. Ruger 10/22 if you can afford it.

    Marlin 60 if you can't.

  4. Ruger 10/22 hands down. You can buy one new for under 200 dollars, there is a ton of after market stuff for em and they are very accurate and dependable. they have been around for years and you wont ever hear anyone say a bad thing about em. At least I havent.

If you want to spend about 200 more and dont care about the semi auto part, the Marlin 39 A is a downright accurate dependable shooter. Id have one of those too if I had the money to drop.

  5. Ruger 10/22 is about the upper end of cheap. If you start getting into modifications, it will no longer be cheap.

Out of the box, a Mossberg Plinkster 702 is a great rifle for a great price. I have had this version since June and I think it is great!

  6. Marlin 60 or the 10/22. I paid $210 for my 10/22 but that was awhile back and prices may have gone up or my case is different then your because of location.

  7. Anything over $200 in .22  fails in the inexpensive category in my opinion

Remington 597, Marlin 60s and most of the Savage .22 will do anything an out of the box Ruger will do for at least $50 less

  8. ruger 10/22  best .22 rifle out there for a resonable cost I wouldn't go any other way

  9. IMO the two best "inexpensive" semi-auto .22s are the Marlin 60 and Ruger 10/22.

  10. the 3 most inexpensive would be Savage, Marlin, and Mossberg

As with all things in life, you get what you pay for.  These three are no exception and are of about equal quality.  Pick whichever one looks nicesest, feels the best to you, or is priced at your local store the lowest

  11. Ruger 10/22.

Inexpensive, reliable, has a million aftermarket parts available so can be upgraded infinitely, built tough and made in the USA.

Right out of the box, the 10/22 is a great gun. One day if you want to upgrade and turn it into a super accurate, professional target rifle, you can. There are tons of barrels, stocks, trigger mods, bullpup stocks, mags, you name it.

  12. For a new gun, the Savage model 64f is, in my opinion, the clear winner. Its not as pretty as a Marlin model 60 or Ruger 10/22, but its reliable and accurate (in fact unless you're an Olympic level shooter, it will shoot better than you do). It also retails for less than either of the other two options. Next up would be the Marlin model 60 again its an accurate reliable gun. Its just a wee bit more expensive than Savage's offering. The Ruger 10/22, in spite of its popularity with the Yahoo Answers! crowd comes in last place for inexpensive semi-automatics in my book. Even though it has a huge number of after-market customizations, its just too expensive at almost $200 to win the inexpensive .22 semi-automatic award.

For a used gun, you'll probably be able to find a Marlin model 60 that's within your budget easily.
