Here's a look at a few of the best final games played during the Champions League.
Lets start with Barcelona Vs Arsenal 2-1 ( 2006)
Barcelona were the favorites’ going into the match, considering they had been in top form throughout the season where Arsenal were failing to perform at their best. Arsenals keeper Lehman was sent off in the eighteenth minute, but to every one’s surprise it was Arsenal who opened the scoring.
In the second half Barcelona tried their level best to unlock the resilient Arsenal defense but they were constantly being kept out. In the seventy sixth minute Eto finally scored for Barcelona and then Belletti scored near the end. Barcelona ended up winning the match, but they were given a run for their money throughout the game by Arsenal.
AC Milan vs Barcelona 4-0 (1994)
The score line suggests that this match was quite possibly the biggest blowout in the Champions Leagues final history. Barcelona were easily the favorites to win the title against an AC Milan that were missing numerous key players such as, Papin, Laudrup, Van Basten and even their captain Baresi. On the field however Milan quite simply destroyed Barcelona. They stunned every one as they ran riot and won by a four goal deficit.
Next was Manchester United vs Bayern Munich 2-1 (1999)
One of the most epic matches ever to take place was between, Bayern Munich and Manchester United. The match was dead locked between the two teams but a deflected free kick by Mario Basler gave the German side, Bayern Munich the lead and the Germans did their best to hold onto that lead for ninety minutes.
In injury time at the end of the ninetieth minute one of the most shocking events ever to be witnessed by a sports fan took place. United won two corners of their German rivals, both of them were whipped in brilliantly by the feet of Beckham and were converted by Sheringham and Solskjaer. In the span of two minutes Manchester United had turned the match around and ended up winning the game two goals to one.
Then Liverpool vs AC Milan 3-3 (2005) with Liverpool winning on penalties
The match that has been labeled as the ‘Miracle of Istanbul’ was without a doubt the greatest final match to ever take place in the Champions League. Milan were the favorites going into the game and they did that reputation no harm when they went three goals up near the end of the first half. No one could have ever guessed what was going to happen in the next thirty minutes of football however.
Liverpool managed to pullback with one of the greatest comeback ever, they scored three goals in the span of six minutes. Milan were easily the better team on the night but the heart and spirit shown by Liverpool could have overcome the greatest of teams on that night. In the resulting penalty shootout, Dudek pulled of a heroic display and helped Liverpool win the match with a penalty shootout score line of three goals to two. Liverpool turned out to be one of the most unlikeliest winner of the trophy that night.
