I might invest in a pair of clippers in the near future and I need really good ones that will last a very long time. I would also like to know about where to purchase and sharpen blades? Any info will be greatly appreciated!

  1. i love oster a-2's they are great and you can fit different sized blades on them. i hope i can help you. thanks.

  2. Check out Laube...I have a pair of their cordless (they are not for body clipping) but they are thee best...everyone at the barn including the grooms always want to use my clippers...especially at the shows.  I know they do make larger and more powerful for body clipping that are either corded and/or cordless.  You can get a variety of blades for them too.  They (the Laube name) are actually used extensively by dog groomers....but they do have clippers for use on livestock..... horses, sheeps, etc.

As long as your researching..I highly recommend that you check them out!!

I use the Speed Feed instead of the A-2's that most do.  They too take blades from 10-40 ceramic coated..They are quiet, stay cool, and have a higher RPM than others.

  3. The best for body clipping is the really big ones like the Oster Clipmaster (formerly the Sunbeam Clipmaster).  They will last a long time and handle any clipping job with ease.  I use them on my pony with a thick Cushing's Disease coat.  You can purchase blades where you get the clippers, or your local tack store.  The local store might also sharpen blades or send them out for sharpening.

  4. I like my A-5 with an extra wide blade it works great for a body clip.  The only thing I do not like is you can't get the ceramic titanium extra wide blade.  So you either need to find someone to sharpen them, get a sharpener yourself and learn how to use it, or spend quite a bit to get your blades sharpened.  But that is true of any clippers.

  5. SUNBEAMS are what you want!  I've had my great big ones since 1980 and still use 'em and they work great.  Now for finishing up or light touch ups, you'll want to look at Oster A-2s for whiskers, bridlepaths, ears, muzzles and touch ups on bootings.

For really light touch ups I've got a pair of the cordless wahls, but these don't last that long.

You can normally buy new blades for clippers at your local feed or tack store and some have contacts for sharpening your blades.

Your A-2 will need everything from 10's to 40's for different types of clipping.

    Best of luck.

  6. Oster A5 golden, good all around clippers. Sturdy enough for body clipping and great for bridlepaths and noses or show clips. Ive had mine for about 5 years, replacing my last pair of osters that i had for 20. they are still good and i use them just wanted a newer pair. I use a 10 blade for body clipping and make sure you have a few 10's so you can switch blades every 20 minutes or so. I use a 40 for noses, bridlepaths and ears and eyes, a 10 for legs and or body clipping, a 15 for the upsidedown v in the forehead and underneath the jaw and a 30 for blending.
