I asked this this morning but was hoping I would hit a different audience. OK I am looking for the best cookies you have ever had. I have been to all the site that's not what I need. I want a tried and true recipe of cookies that you had to keep eating cause they were the best you ever had. Preferably not your basic chocolate chip. Thanks for your help.

  1. You're looking for pie in the sky. Basic cookie recipes are usually the best, anything else is adulterated with different ingredients. A time tested cookie recipe is the Neiman-Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookie. Google it and get the recipe free, you will enjoy it. If you want something different then just throw anything in your fridge into the batter. Good luck.

  2. There's a cookbook called "The New Best Recipe" (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0... ) that's has several cookie recipes that fit your qualifications. In fact, I made Molasses Cookies yesterday that I literally kept eating until they were gone. Their peanut butter cookie recipe is also very good. To illustrate just how good they are, I once took the peanut butter cookies to work and my boss grabbed a couple on his way out the door. He called me from the car and asked me to set aside some more for him. As for the molasses cookies, a co-worker refused the offer of cookies because he didn't like molasses cookies. Another co-worker, hands and mouth stuffed full, said, "Neither do I, but I love these!"

There are a couple of secrets to making really spectacular cookies. If you do these two things, your cookies, no matter what recipe you use, will be phenomenal. First, use butter. Not margarine, not butter flavored shortening - BUTTER. These are cookies, don't bother to try to make them healthy. Nothing tastes like butter, and nothing gives the texture that butter does. Second, do NOT overbake your cookies. Bake them until they're firm at the edges, but not yet turning brown. Leave them on the pan for a few minutes before removing to a cooling rack so they can set up a bit. They'll probably look underbaked, but that's okay. The residual heat will finish up that last little bit. They'll be chewy and delicious for a day or two after, as opposed to hard, crunchy hockey pucks.
