Question:

Best Cruise Line to Alaska?

I am looking into Celebrity, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and NCL. I ruled out the others because they didn't go roundtrip from Vancouver (like Princess, I know it is supposed to be good, but their itineraries don't work for us). This is important to me. I am 24 and going with my husband. We aren't super into the party scene, but we also don't want to stick out horribly on a cruise full of older people. We are going in May.

  1. I would definitely go with Royal Caribbean.   We sailed on NCL in May to Alaska - and it was not good.  It was our first and last cruise with NCL.  The NCL Star is horrible.  The buffet was dirty - we would not eat there.  The food in the dining room was OK, but nothing to rave about.  The staff gets their tips automatically off your bill at $10.00 per day - so they have no reason to give you any kind of great service.

We have always had good cruises with Royal Caribbean, never once have we had any trouble or complaints with them.  The waiters, and room stewards are always fun and attentive.

We LOVED Alaska - have a great time!!  We did the Float Plane over the Glaciers  - it was breath taking!!!

  2. With out a dought do Royal Caribbean. I did NCL and it was awful. The food was so bad. Royal Caribbean in my opinion is great treatment. I choose them for Alaska. It was incredible. Try for July it is a geat weather in Alaska that time of year. When you go you must do the helicopter excursion. You land on an ice glacier. Truely amazing. Royal Caribbean may be a bit more expensive but you pay for what you get. Good Luck and have fun!!!!!!

  3. We took a Crystal cruise to Alaska a couple of years ago in July.  It was terrific.  No complaints whatsover.  You should be aware, however, that the older (a/k/a half-dead geriatric) crowd tends to book to the longer 2-week cruises (they are all retired w/lots of free time!); the younger crowd goes for the 1-week cruises.

  4. Ms; I have taken 20 cruises to Alaska. 16 on Ncl & did not have a single complaint. Everything was great. Unless they changed NCL as well as most others depart from Seattle, which is a much easier airport to get around in & closer to the docks.

On a Budget - book an inside cabin & save close to $500.00 each. You are not in your cabin that much as the sites and everythung else is up on deck. You will meet great people from all over the world.

All lines pretty much stop at the same ports of call. May & Sept. have the lower rates. Also there is people of all ages on ALL cruise lines.

No matter what line you choose book early as they fill up fast & ENJOY.
