The producers decided:
C: Johnny Bench
1B: Lou Gehrig
2B: Joe Morgan
SS: Alex Rodriguez*
3B: Mike Schmidt
LF: Barry Bonds
CF: Willie Mays
RF: Hank Aaron
Pitcher: Roger Clemens
Closer: Dennis Eckersley
The analysts said that because A-Rod is going to play another 10 years, he'll be more of a 3B than a SS. They thought that Cal Ripken Jr. Should be in the SS.
Do you agree or disagree? I think the criteria was the player's career, but also how great the player was. There were that many players that are really old, so I think that the voters thought that the more recent eras were more competitive. I have to agree. I don't want to see any dead ball era pitchers because their competition was trash. Also, one guy mentioned that Ruth was not on the team because he played before the color barrier was broken, so the competition was not nearly as high.
Ruth was unanimously named the best PLAYER of all-time, but was not included in the starting lineup.
My question is:
Do you agree or disagree? Is this the best d**n all-time team?
Make your own. I think that players after WWII should be weighed more heavily because people before could just dominate against weak competition and the numbers are inflated.
