Question:

Best December (non-US) Travel Locations based on price/climate/experience?

I'm a hostel/backpacker looking for advice for an upcoming December travel window. Unfortunately due to work I'm only able to get a few weeks off in December stretching into the first week of January.

I had initially hoped to go to New Zealand or Argentina, but airfare to both skyrockets during that period ($1700 US on the cheap side).

So, i'm looking for other options. I've found airfare to Turkey and Iceland for $950-$1000 (lessno.com) and starting to think outside the box.

I travel for the experience, beauty and the people. Affordability is a major factor. Your advice is greatly appreciated!

  1. Your timing couldn't be more perfect for Vietnam.  By December the monsoons are over and the heat of the summer has moderated.  Perfect days with warm evenings and sun almost every day.  Hotels as low as the $10 range and living on $35 a day with meals and cocktails is easy.  Lots to see and do and really nice people.  don't miss it.  It will be your best trip ever.

and check with the RTW companys for cheap airfares.  You can get a good circular pacific rate for around $1000 that will allow you to hit Bali and Hong Kong and maybe Aus or NZ as well as Vietnam. check out this web site but remember the prices quoted are without taxes
