  1. Uno's is a must for your first time in Chicago for pizza.  But you really can't go wrong at any of the places that everyone is listing.  It is Chicago, and if there is something they do right, it is pizza.

    Have fun on vacation.

  2. uno's is da bomb and has 2 locations

  3. lou malnates and giodonoes and piza capri in hyde park

  4. i visited chicago in high school and fell in love with their pizza. i only got to eat at gino's east but i can say it was easily the best pizza i've ever eaten. i remember we ended up waiting outside in line for about 45 minutes just for a table but it's worth every minute.

oh and also try their polish sausage and italian ice... also very good.

  5. Lou Malnati's of course

  6. Giordanos world"s famous stuff crush pizza and there is one really close to the airport

  7. Gino's!

  8. My vote for best pizza is Uno's deep dish on Ohio St. The atmosphere is great, but depending on what time of day you visit, you may have to wait in line.

I recommend asking a few people in town where the best place is for a great hot dog. You may get several answers, because there are several good locations for a great hot dog in Chicago.

If you'll only be in town for a few days, check out www.metromix.com and click on "Chicago" for more ideas and reviews on food and places to see.

Uno's is very close to the Magnificent Mile, which I highly recommend visiting if you've never been there. With a quick cab ride, you could also visit Millenium Park and Navy Pier which is very close.

Hotels, humm....definitely call around for the best deals or check online for the cheapest rates. The Inn Of Chicago on Ohio St. seems like the best deal I found, but like I said, you should call first. They are on Ohio St. (near Uno's, the Magnificent Mile, and all the other great attractions). They listed their rates at around $100 a night, and some of the other ones I saw showed $150/night or more that were located near the Magnificent Mile.

If you will be in town for a while, I have more suggestions.....

Visit Fogo De Chao on Lasalle St. for upscale dining that will blow you away with service and quality of food. (only $30 lunch, but $50 during dinner). You get 16 CUTS OF MEAT SERVED TO YOUR TABLE, all for one price. (That is, unless you're a vegetarian).

Also check out the Blue Man Group at the Briar St. theater on Halstead St. Tickets vary in price, but the show is amazing. Check them out online.

Another place to dine is Ed Debevic's on N. Well's St. It's lower priced, diner-style food, but the waitresses and waiters are purposely rude (not horribly) and have a quick wit. It's makes for a fun evening if you are with a big crowd.

Last recommendations: Sear's Tower or John Hancock Observatory. If you have a whole day to do what you'd like....visit the great museums...The Museum of Science and Industry, The Field Museum, The Shedd Aquarium, The Art Museum.

Have a great time on your visit!

  9. Uno's for pizza.

  10. Definitely Lou Malnatis ~ YUM!

  11. If you want to do the typical tourist-type stuff downtown, you'll want to get a hotel in the downtown area as opposed to one by O'Hare. The Blue Line commute from the O'Hare area to downtown could well grate on your nerves, so you might as well eliminate that stress.

There is no single recommendation (as I am sure you have realized by reading the varied posts) for good pizza or hot dogs in Chicago. Chicago is home to these foods, so they will be very good nearly anywhere you seek them in the city. Pizza places and beef stands are all over here. Giordano's, Gino's East and Lou Malnati's, as you've read, are all popular pizza spots. You can get hot dogs, Italian beef, gyros and Polish sausage at most any beef stand you see; however, you'll see more of those out in the neighborhoods than downtown. However, JDawgs (sp?) is an option; it's on State Street, and if I recall correctly, the cross street is Pearson.

As for low-priced hotels, you'll have to provide an idea of your budget. An average room downtown will probably cost you at least $150. You can try looking into neighborhoods near downtown that might have slightly more affordable hotel rates. Also consider hostelling.

Advice for the hot dog: Get it with everything. And "everything" in Chicago excludes ketchup!

  12. go to Giordano's then. They have the best deep dish pizza.

  13. Check out My PIe in Lincoln Park, 2417 N Clark St, Chicago  and if that one is not open check out the second location, 2010 N Damen Ave # E.

  14. The best place for pizza is Gino's East.

I haven't had a bad hot dog in Chicago. There are places alllll over for dogs and Italian Beef (which is to die for!) I think the one you may be thinking of is Gold Coast. They are at the airports as well as other locations in and around the city.

You will find there are a lot of very inexpensive sandwich shops all over the Chicagoland area that have great, great tasting food and MORE than affordable prices.

  15. Giordano's
