Best Digital Camera for Under $200?

I want a digital camera that takes breath taking photos, thats shows details and has more MP than 7.2, for under $200...is that possiable?

I use it for wildlife photos, family and kids, pets and just being a teenager and taking random photos with friends. I am having a hard time finding one, and I need help. My casio exlim was awesome until my lil sis broke it and I would rather have a camera more sturdy.

What kind of cameras do you have and if you can show me what kind of photos you took with them.

Thanks!!!

  1. Look at the Canon A-590. $170 at walmart. 8m.p. 4x zoom lens. Takes AA batteries Has a viewfinder and LCD.

Things I like, uses AA batteries, buy batteries and a charger for less than $20.No expensive camera makers battery and if you get stuck you can buy batteries any were.

Has a view finder so if the LCD breaks and it is rather common, you can still take pictures.

4x zoom lens most compacts have a 3x. You can make manual adjustments if you want to get creative. Shutter, apature,ISO etc.

Takes pretty nice pictures, not as nice as my other camera but at $900 less I wouldn't expect it to.

Things I don't like, body is all plastic and feels well plasticy.

When using the flash expect about a 4-5 second delay between pictures.

  2. I just posted this under another question:

Nikon Cool Pix (around $180ish) and Canon PowerShot SD870 (more like $250ish) are 2 nice ones I recently researched. My mom has the Nikon and loves it for just taking pix. I have the Canon and love it b/c I can adjust some settings like I can w/ my Canon Rebel XT SLR. Both take extremely nice photos.

Do you just want to point and shoot or are you interested in being able to adjust manual settings like aperture and shutter speed, etc.? That will determine which camera is best for you. One thing to look for is a high MP--like 8ish is good, anything higher is unnecessary for the amateur. You can look on Best Buy.com and check the specs on the 2 I mentioned and look for a similar one that's cheaper.

Generally speaking, Canon, Nikon, Kodak are good brands. But each camera has it's own functionality that will determine if it's better over another.
