Best GPS for the car?

I was wondering what was the best GPS for the car. Is there such thing as one that has live feed or are they all software based? Also if the live feed exists, do I have to pay any monthly fees? Which GPS system for the car do you guys recommend? It will be used in the US..so the best one available, but it would also be great if it had accurate routing for Canda areas just incase I decide to head up anytime soon. My budget is under 1 grand. So if there is any live feed GPS systems with no monthly fees that would be great.

  1. cjensenuti,  I'd recommend the Garmin Nuvi line.  I've owned one about a year now.  I've read reviews online and in print that all indicate the software used by Garmin is superior to Tom Tom.  I've got the Nuvi 350, which I bought online for $350.  It's got test to speech, which tells you the name of the turns.

What you're looking for is called traffic navigator by Nuvi and can be purchased as an accessory.  The add-on is under $100, but there is a monthly fee.  I believe it's under $10 a month, though.  Navigator will monitor traffic and offer alternative routes when the precalculated route is backed up.

The Nuvi line is preloaded with North American maps, so Canada is already covered.

The 350 is near the bottom of the Nuvi line and others offer more features, but they weren't anything that interested me.  Bluetooth, MP3 capability, greater memory.

I don't know of any live feed systems that are without fees, since it's going to cost money to access live data.

  2. How much you want to pay? Look into Nuvi products...they're pretty good, prices start around $250. good luck!

  3. I HAVE A GARMIN THAT I BOUGHT OFF EBAY, UNOPENED AND UNREGISTERED, THE GUY JUST WANTED QUICK MONEY.

GOT IT AND REGISTERED IT AND ALL IS WELL, PAID $165.00 + SHIPPING OF $8.00.

ITS A STREETPIOLT C330 AND ITS WORKS GREAT.
