I'm going on a road trip with my housemate around Ireland and we're looking to find the best pints of Guinness and the greatest pub grub in the country.

What would be your top choices?

What would you recommend on the menu?

  1. Doorman is correct about the Stags Head and also when you are in Dublin, try the Guinness Brewery and revolving restaurant and when you take the tour of the brewery you get a free pint.

There are a lot of pubs in Ireland with great food,  The Stables in Sligo has very good bar food, and in Rossnowlagh County Donegal (near the old market town of Ballyshannon)  you have the Black and White pub of the year for  a few years running now.

Durty Nellies in Co.Claire is another must!!!  It's situated just beside Bunratty Castle. If you contact the Irish tourist board they will recommend the best pubs and anything else you may be interested in seeing and doing while your here.  Remember, Ireland hosted the World surfing championship five years ago, so food and Guinness are not the only great things we have to offer.

  2. guinness the same all over ireland isnt it?

  3. We have just spent 18 days in Ireland and found a lovely pub and restaurant near New Ross, on the road to Waterford.

We ended up going there 3 times because they have the best food around. We have Chicken Enchilados which came with Chips, then the next time I ordered a side dish of Mushrooms for 2 euros and got a massive amount, then ordered a side salad next time and that was yummy.

    The Horse & Hound

What a wonderful place. Highly recommended for their pint of Guinness and the staff are so friendly.

  4. Dublin's best pint is in the Stag's Head off George Street but in saying that I had plenty of great ones in Galway, Munros had a good pint for a while but things can change when the ownership changes

As far as grub goes, hold your horses there. Your coming to Ireland to find the best pint of Guinness, you don't want to be wasting good drinking time on trivial things like food

  5. Just got back from Dublin.  If you are doing the touristy thing, then the best views and supposedly Guinness are at the top of the Guinness tower as part of the factory tour on St Peter's gate.  The Irish Stew was fab at a little Cafe in Temple Bar called Gertrude's - genuine Irish craic!!

  6. Here are three that are very very good.  You would enjoy all of them.  Anything on the menu is good.  Depends on what you like.

    Abbey Tavern

    Howth, Dublin 13

    Annie Mays

    Skibbercen West Cork

Ballina Courty House  (Most Expensive but wort it!!)

    Glen of Aherlow Tipperary
