I have windows XP, but I might be getting a new computer with vista real soon. Virus protection is a huge factor.

Just in your opinion, what is the best internet security software?

  1. Don't trust anything but these two:

    1. AVG

    2. Avast

Do a google search for these.

These a both free and work wonders for me!

Also, I'm told that the Mozilla Firefox browser is more secure than Internet Explorer, and it's awesome, so you might wanna give that a try as well.

Are you sure you want Vista? I hear from many people that it's not great at all.

  2. Look, you are going to get mixed results from everyone. Some like Norton some hate it, some swear by AVG, others laugh at it. The final decision comes down to you, and I am pretty sure that an answer like:   "I use _______ and I haven't had a virus ever since"   isn't going to be of much use to you. So I am going to give you a link to an independent (therefore unbiased) anti-virus testing website.

You can look at the results and make a decision for yourself. No security software is perfect. Personally I would recommend Avira or NOD32, because they are light, easy to use, and don't slow your computer down much.

  3. Best known AVs :

    KasperSky

    AntiVir

    AVG

    Norton

    Nod32

    Avast

    Mcaffee

*use whatever you want , they are all good.

    self protection :

    * Never accept\open unknown files [Spec .exe files] .

    * Use windows worms doors cleaner to disable some ports in ur pc .

    * Never open untrusted links .

    * Keep your AV up to date.

  4. Best security programs listed below. Also, use Firefox instead of IE.

  5. No, no, no, do not use norton; worst program you could possibly pay for. I had a virus about a year ago that Norton would not detect. So I was told about avast.com

Avast is completely free, no hidden charges, no credit card sign up, nothing. Once you download it you will email yourself a key and you put it in the program and it works for 12 months and then you do the same thing again in 12 months. Once you download it it will emmediately scan your computer and then continue scanning incoming possible threats to your computer.

The way Avast gets their money is by huge companies that have to pay for the product.

  6. Norton Anit Virus...

Earlier... someone hacked my computer so I got the new version of Norton and have not had a virus sense!

  7. The best paid for Anti Virus programs>

    Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0.1.325

    Bitdefender

    NOD32

    F-Secure

    G-Data Internet Security

    Trend Micro Internet Security pro

    Spyware Doctor Internet Security

    The Shield Deluxe

    Norton 360

    CA Anti-Virus

    AVIRA paid version

    AVAST paid version

  8. Don't listen to anyone else, I can promise you that Trend Micro is THE best there is. And it is not very expensive. You can purchase it for about $40 at best buy.   Trend Micro has the highest ratings for 2008 in consumer report magazine. I have it on three computers, and never have experienced any trouble with it. All three of my computers run windows vista premium, so i am very familiar with it.   You will not be disappointed with it. I Promise!

  9. Kaspersky "recommended"

  10. norton has always worked for us.  i myself am a Linux user, so i don't need anti-virus software, but if you're a smart enough user you can avoid most of the viruses out there without even needing any anti-virus stuff.  i say most because there are still a few that can wiggle through security holes and stuff.
