Question:

Best Island In The Caribbean For Us?

My girlfriend and I are planning to go in December 2008. This is what is important to us:

- Beautiful beach to relax

- Safe to rent a scooter for the week and create our own day trips.

- Good food (we may stay at an all inclusive, or at a regular hotel)

Any help would be appreciated. When suggesting a location, if you have info about:

- general prices....how much you would spend in a day and what you would get for it.

- places you've stayed on this island you would recommend.

- area of the island that you would recommend.

Thanks!

  1. Try Barbados....or Aruba....Jamacia is good too. I just planned a trip to Mexico for December with original intent to do the Caribbean but it was too expensive. if mexico is an option for you there is a wonderful all inclusive resort complex i decided on...the Barcelo Maya Palace. i got it for $953.00 a person for 7 days allinclusive on jetblue.com/getaways

the beach is beautiful and it isnt the crazy teen spot in cancun...

if you decide aruba...do not stay at the flea bag holiday inn.

la cabana is nice but ask for a room in the newly renovated part.

jamacia has a breezez that is nice and reasonable but i wouldnt recomend touring around by yourself.

    barbados is amazing but expensive.

    hope it helps.

  2. My husband and I went to the Dominican Republic last year.  It was beautiful.  Not many people know what it is like there, so it is just like going to Cancun without the crowds... sort of like a hidden treasure.  We stayed at Breezes resort in Puerto Plata.  There is an airport in Puerto Plata, so not much land travel is needed.  This was only a four hour flight from NY.  The beaches are beautiful, the food is good but different, and it is so peaceful.  Best of all everything is dirt cheap there!  We stayed at a beautiful all-inclusive resort, ate sometimes 4 times a day, had our own villa, the resort had its own private beach with little huts.  Our all-inclusive fee was only like $450 for the both of us.  I would highly recommend this island.  But be prepared, it is a 3rd world country and so you will see things that you are not used to.  Here is a link to the resort we stayed at.  http://www.superclubs.com/brand_breezes/...

  3. Puerto Rico Definitely. Culebra & Vieques are the most gorgeus white sand (almost secluded) beaches you will see. You can rent a car & take day trips, you can go anywhere on the island in a few hours or less. PR has great natural adventures to explore, plus there is great restaraunts, shopping, casinos & nightlife too. There are so many things to see like:

Old San Juan (historic sights like El Morro Fort)

    El Yunque Rain Forest

    Rio Camuy Caves

    Bioluminescent bay (it glows)

    Culebra/Vieques Island

Arecibo Telescope (larest radio telescope in the world)

    Caguana or TIbes Indian Park

    Rincon beach (Surfing/Sunsets/Whalewatching)

    Ponce (Seralles Castle/Gaunica dry forest)

    Bacardi Factory

  4. 1. trinidad & tobago

    2. nassau

    3. jamaica

    4. cuba

    5. cayman
