Question:

Best Italian city for 3 days?

My fiance and I are going on our honeymoon this summer. We will be spending four or five days in Munich, Germany and four or five days in Zadar, Croatia. In between those two cities we would like to spend three days in an Italian city. We will be travelling into Italy, during the last couple days of July.

I am a history buff, so Rome seems like a good option, but with the crowds and begining of holiday, we wonder if it is worth it. Otherwise Florence or Venice seem like good possibilities, but all seem overcrowded and over touristy. What's our best option? Or should we skip all this Italian business all together?

After the Italian city, we plan to take a bus to Ancona, Italy and from there ferry over to Zadar, Croatia.

  1. it,s worth it go to rome, you will love it. and congratulations.

  2. Yes, Rome or Florence best choice, but if is in August, than is maybe better to stay in Croatia, (go to Dubrovnik), and go to Italy other time.

  3. If you like history than Rome would be good. Personally,  you should consider doing a tour around the whole country. You can fly to Rome and head north. So you can see Pisa, Florence, Venice, and fly back to the states in Milan. I did one year and it was coolest thing ever.

  4. Venecia..viva  italia..

  5. Venice is closer to the border, and if we are talking distance, then Florence-then Rome. Florence and Rome are the pinnacles of Italy though. Best wishes.

  6. Based on your route, Venice is your best choice. There will be crowds, yes. Buy Rick Steves' Italy (www.ricksteves.com) for help beating those. Or, to skip them altogether and enjoy a relatively-undiscovered gem, consider Trieste, just over an hour from Venice by train.

  7. All these 3 cities are crowded in that season.

Venice is the best choice because it is by the way.

I can't say which is better, Rome or Venice: both are beautiful and suitable also for a 3-day trip.

Rome has a better weather in summer: it's less hot in the nighttime

  8. If you are a history buff don't skip Rome.Just a  great city.
