We want to explore history, culture, food and wine etc. No kids if possible. No tacky touristy shops. Just beautiful relaxing scenary - maybe a little hussle and bustle one or two days but mainly volcanic sightseeing, relaxing beaches etc.

  1. Lanzarote and culture are a contradiction in terms.

  2. Jake T has it about right, all the Canary islands are man made holiday resorts, there is very little culture or history to be had.

If all you want is hot weather and imported Sahara desert sand, go for it, but here are a few places of relative interest.

  3. any of the resorts are fine but you will have to travel , there are coach trips and the local buses will take you to the main towns , culture is mainly art , and architecture, and landscape, but as our friend said it is a bit of a search to find culture, but there is some

  4. Hi, Lanzarote did not exist until the seventies, when man dropped a few volcanoes into the atlantic ocean and built tourist resorts !!

Or.......There is plenty of tradition, history, art culture, museums, scenery, volcanoes and remote beaches etc. None of this is within walking distance of the resorts though !!

A small island but a car is essential. Suggest you look at inland villages, Haria, Nazaret, Teguise, Soo etc...no kids. Alternative is to base yourself at PdC and travel out each day. You can take or leave the bustle, but be centrally based. No more than 40 minutes casual drive to any point of the island. Make the effort...there is plenty to do and see, with virtualy no English spoken once away from the tourists. Day trip to Graciosa etc.
