i need some ideas of musicians to write about (he/she can be "new" or "old" doesnt matter)....please and thankyou!

Neil Young's life is very interesting, both personally and professionally.

Emmylou Harris has worked with hundreds of people from numerous genres.

Michael Franti is little known but has an awful lot to say.

Ted Hawkins was a homeless street musician who was discovered and ended up with a recording contract.

David Byrne of Talking Heads has had an interesting career too.

Ry Cooder has done everything from film scores to mariachi.

Daniel Lanois, from New Orleans, writes, records and produces with an interesting group of people.

Aaron Neville has also had an unusual life and career.

Bonnie Raitt has been around a few different blocks and has quite a story to tell.

I thought I'd offer a few less obvious but still easily researchable choices. Wiki has articles on all these people so you can get an idea of whether they appeal to you. Sounds like a fun paper to me. Good luck!

Roger Waters, of the band Pink Floyd.

Roger is the brillance behind the band, and a very deep and sympathetic man.  The music is very universal, and there is much info that can be found on the band.  Not to mention he is my favorite front man, and I cant think of anyone better musicianwise............ever.  LOL Good Luck!

You could write about Harry Conick, Jr.  He has been in the  

  press a lot, lately, given all that he is doing for the vistims of

  Hurricane Katrina.

Wil Smith (the Fresh Prince) is interesting.

Loretta Lynn could be one of your options, too.

Olivia Newton-Jon is a good choice.

How about Queen Latiffa?
