Best Man Responsibilities

Question

I'm the Best Man and I unclear about my gift giving responsibilities. Should I just give a gift from myself?

Should I go in on a nice gift with all the groomsman?

Should the Maid of Honor and myself buy a gift together?

PLEASE HELP!!!

Just give him a gift from yourself. It's too hard to coordinate with others on buying a gift.

It's a fairly nebulous question.  The tradition varies by both religion and social status not to mention the geographical location.  That said, having been a best man, I can tell you that your basic responsibilities are few and will lie with:

Taking care of the groom - making sure he's altogether. You might also need to deliver the newlyweds automobile to the door of the reception hall.

You will stand with the groom at the alter.

You are the keeper of the (her) wedding band and will surrender it upon request by the clergyman.

You will be responsible for paying/tipping the clergyman,discreetly, after the wedding - the groom should have researched the cost and should provide you with adequate funds prior to the wedding.

Your last "official" function will be to appear in the after the wedding photo shoot that involves the wedding party.

You should buy the wedding couple a gift and deliver it before the wedding.  Considering your status of best man I would buy a separate gift.  But that's an individual choice and not a requirement.

That depends on the budget of everyone and what you all agree on.  My opinion is that one really great gift is better than lots of cheap small things, but you need to get a vote with everyone.  The best man is like a maitron or maid of honor, except guys aren't as high maintenance as a bride.  The best man usually by tradition has a bachelor party, but keep it safe and sane.
