Best Mobile Phone Carriers in London?

I'm getting ready to study abroad in London for the upcoming Fall semester and am searching for a reliable, affordable mobile phone carrier while abroad. Not interested in signing a contract and my current phone does not have a removable SIM so I will need a new phone. Any suggestions on who has the best service? Would also be great to be able to make calls from France, Germany, and Ireland and not get stuck with roaming fees. Thanks!

Hi Christopher, Yes the mobile phone company called 'THREE'.

You can buy a pay as you go phone Sony Ericsson for £59.99 with SKYPE on it and you can talk to anyone anywhere that has SKYPE for FREE. Great coverage too. Hope this helps you. Just type in 3 or three into google and the web site will come up for you to see.

I think Betty is correct that Three would be a good choice. I know you said you don't want to sign a contract but you might be interested to know Three are doing a special 6 month contract deal (link below) where you will get the Skype phone Betty mentions for free. So the £15 per month contract means a total cost of £90 - you shouldn't need to spend more on calls with all the inclusive minutes and free skype calls back to the US. This would almost certainly work out cheaper than buying the phone for £59 and spending money on Pay as You Go minutes on top.

Also in Austria, Sweden, Italy, Ireland, Denmark (even Australia and Hong Kong) because Three have networks there, your contract minutes can be used as normal - ie not charged extra as roaming fees.

I am biased though as a Three customer I think they're really good! BTW if you want to contact me I can 'Recommend a Friend' before you take the contract out and you'll get a further £30 credit added to your account - so two months of the six would be free anyway.
