What is the best hardtail discbrake mountain bike i can get under $1000?

When you're considering different manufacturers, the only real difference between their bikes is the frame. Manufacturers design and build their frames uniquely...you want to consider the shape and size that fits you. The material of their frames also differ, there's double butted, triple butted, 6061 aluminum, 70xx aluminum.

The second factor of price are the components of the bike. Bike manufacturers does not make their own components. They get it from other component manufacturers such as Shimano, Hayes, Avid, SRAM, etc...

The better quality and performance you want out of a component, the higher price you have to pay.

To sum it up, all manufacturers have their own "best" mountain bike for under $1000. It just depends what fits you the best.

All the major bike manufactures offer good hard tails in this price range, go to your LBS and get one. Don't sweat the minor spec. details just go to your local bike shop, get fitted and hit the trails.
