Best Mountain bike tires for me...

I have a new Trek 4500 I just ordered a set of Halo STS wheels and am looking for a new set of tires. I want something that will last longer than the stock Bontragers that I have already pretty much trashed. I am a big guy at 6'7" 285...if that matters. I am usually on streets or paved trails but every now and then do some off road gravel and what not.

  1. it seems like you do a lot of street riding and gravel so i would reccomend the maxxis holy rollers they are smooth and very well gripping for street and also for dirt and they are not very expensive hope you like them

  2. The k***s of a true off ride tire are designed for dirt. The k***s simply dig into the dirt and provide a paddle like action. This works great in dirt. They wear much faster on asphalt.

You want a city / trekking / touring type tire.

The touring / trekking type tire will have a smooth center section and sometimes side k***s. I ride all the time on gravel packed bike trails on a touring tire without any difficulty. I have had great luck with Continental and Panaracer brand tires. I would check out the Continental Travel Contact tires at your local bike shop. Might be up your alley.

  3. i think you should be stickin with training wheels
