I am currently an undergraduate student studying Anthropology in Canada. Once I graduate, I want to take a Masters in Anthropology. I'm not exactly sure what in, but I'm especially interested in Museum Studies. Opinions on good Universities in North America?

  1. Will depends on what field you want to go in.  If you're more interested in prehistoric anthropology then you may find a better fit out in South Dakota or North Dakota University.  But if you're more interested in Colonial  Archaeology then a better fit would be on the east coast, like Georgetown or Virginia.  So what you need to figure out is how specific of a field you want to be involved in.  Once you have that figured out then start looking into the regions you would be comfortable living in, I haven't met many Canadians who really enjoy living in the humid as h**l south, so make sure where you want to study is somewhere you can live b/c you're going to be there for awhile.  Good luck with your studies

  2. I strongly recommend that you take a look at the American Anthropological Association's guide to graduate programs.  It is published yearly and should be available at any local university library. There may even be an online version. In it, you will find names and specialties of professors teaching in NA universities.  Identify you're own interests as specifically as you can and try to match them up with the faculties.

Many universities have reputations which you can hear about by talking to people like me, who have been through grad school and worked in the academy, but you should think of this kind of advice as educated hearsay. Better to do your own research on the issue and make a choice informed by your own interests and needs.

    best of luck!
