  4. Isn't it the bloke who started it all in the first place?

  5. Michael Phelps baby!!!

Makes me proud to be an American!!

Go USA, Go Phelps, Go Gold!!!

  6. Dan Gable... people would forfeit to not go against him, that's how much fear he inspired from his opponenets!

  7. micheal phelps the greatest swimmer there has ever been

  8. Jesse Owens... being the best is much more than just how many gold medal you win

  9. based soley on success?  michael phelps, hands down.

he not only won the most amount of gold medals in olympic history, but did it in only TWO OLYMPICS.

based on charisma and talent?  probably mary lou or shawn johnson.  both young, cute, talented gymnasts that you just cant help but root for.

based on historic importance?  jesse owens.  i think everyone would agree that he not only had strength and talent, but courage, too for competing in a country that loathed him at the time.

but then you have the standout dara torres who's managed to stay fit her entire life and compete in FIVE olympic games.  if that doesnt say amazing, im not sure what does...

  10. We have not yet reached the end of all time, so your question makes no sense.

  11. You can't declare a "greatest olympian of all time" because it's impossible to compare sports.  It's like comparing apples and oranges.  Michael Phelps is hands down the greatest swimmer of all time because while so many swimmer may only specialize in one or two events Phelps happens to be the best in the world in almost all of them.

If there was a way to calculate the "greatest olympian of all time" what would be the protocol?  It couldn't be number of gold medals won because not all sports have the opportunity for so many events like swimming does for example marathon running.  You know the marathon runner couldn't possibly win 8 gold medals in one olympic games.

Maybe the protocol would be longevity?  Sir Steve Redgrave of rowing won a gold medal in each of the 5 olympics he raced!  20 years of dominance while his competition got faster and stronger and they still couldn't beat him.  On top of that it's an endurance sport like swimming!  There are only about 5 others who have accomplished this feat (gold medal in 5 olympics) and out of the thousands and thousands of people who have ever been labeled Olympian I would say those 6 people can be without a doubt be considered the greatest olympians of all time.

  12. Hi

The best olimpicon Micheal Phelps now today have 6 gold medal and all have got 6 medal in olimpic and Micheal Phelps swimmer!

  13. Donovan Bailey (I'm canadian and a track fan)

  14. michael phelps....and ryan lochte.. ryan does not have many medals but he is still a good swimmer

  15. Definitely Phelps, he is the most decorated Olympian ever. Personally I am tired of seeing him. Its not even a contest anymore.

  16. So DEFINETELY Michael Phelps, man can that guy ever swim...6 Gold Medals already!!wow! He's awesome.I wish he was in the Canadian Team!Go CANADA!!

    also Donovan Bailey from CANADA

    and Shawn Johnson from USA.!

    Go CANADA!!

  17. michael phelps lol seems like thats wat everyone thinks.

  18. I don't know who's the best, but michael phelps is the most decorated olympian.

  19. Michael Phelps.

  20. Phelps lah...like this also dunno. U swim faster than him la....then ask this qns..stupid

  21. Well there's a darn good argument for Michael Phelps.

  22. There's your star!

    Micheal Pheleps.

  23. phelps, or Florence Griffith Joyner way back a few summer olympics ago in track.

she died a while ago but still remains my idol.

Flo Jo was her nickname and she grew up with a hard life... she is very good for doing a report on.

  24. Phelps.

I used to swim myself and taught at the uni level. What this guy is doing to the record books, and doing it sans steroids or enhancement, is simply astounding. I grew up with Spitz and he was d**n good but this guy is simply scary good.

He's beating world class specialists in events as bad as a college swimmer beats the local YMCA champ.

  25. I still say it's African-American Jesse Owens from 1936, for p***ing off Hitler so bad by winning all of those gold medals.

It's not necessarily the total of medals, but the historic importance.

  26. You can't just say Michael Phelps is the best Olympian of all time because he has the most medals, it is not fair to other sports where you can only get one medal compared to swimming where there is different strokes and length variations.

  27. Why should I mark a star???  Because you ask a completely opinionated question...   So someone can answer Michael Phelps and then you can post a little reply about how cute he is and how you are going to be the one who makes him an honest man...  Please give me a Thumbs Ups.

You can not objectively compare athletes from different sports and qualify one as better than another.  It is like comparing apples to grapes...

  28. Michael Phelps.

He has changed the wholeworlds lookon swimmingand have made more people a fan

  29. Just because Phellps has the most medals that doesn't make him the best Olymipan ever. Swimmers have so many more medal chances. Jessie Owens

    Carl Lewis

    Michael Johnson

  30. Hmmm it would seem like Michael Phelps.. 11 golds or something XD.

But I think that anyone who wins the Heptathlon must be pretty amazing, to be so good in seven sports.

And since you asked.. I will mark you a star =D.

  31. michael phelps then nadia comaneci who one the first perfect 10 in any olympic games in 1976
