Question:

Best Place to live in London... Zone 2?

Hi,

I'm working in the US at the moment and return home to the UK in Jan 08. Thinking about moving to London early next year.

Can anybody suggest a nice area to live in Zone 2 that has easy access to Central london (will probably be working in the Knightsbridge area)

Maybe an area that has some bars/pubs (I'm in my 20's), etc and the rent can't be too expensive???

Any Ideas??

Thank you!!

  1. Zone 2 is quite a nice place to live in. Its got easy access to Central London and has got good things going around there.

Bethnal Green is in east london. Thats where many of the asian community lives in London, but none the less the area is very friendly and alive. There is a place called Brick Lane nearby, which is a quite classical brit street, with old pubs. But now its a very lively place, it is like the home to BANGLADESH community in London, there are mmaaannnnny indian restaurants to eat in. all are which cheap, there are many festival going around because of the community and is quite a trendy and popular place in London.

Living there is quite cheap, as the rent there im sure is pretty cheap.(id guess 100-150£ per week(50-100$?) And im sure the food cost is pretty cheap. Because you can find traditional and continental food can be found in local shops.

From there to Central London (BUS)would be 30mins, Knightsbridge-45 mins.

Camden Town is not a bad place too. It is quite a lively musical place. It is known as the alternative place because GOTHS/PUNK/EMOS hang around. The music scene there is thriving, gigs everyday.. Pubs can be easily found.. and food available is a lot(mainly kebab shops i think lol)

Its not such a friendly place though, and rent could be a bit higher i guess. but night life is good there :P..

Rent is higher since its near central london..

The Islington and Hackney area is quite good too. Its a good place for arts and performing arts.

Its quite lively , but crime rates there are a biiittt high. The place is very fun to livein, my friend lives there. And night lifethere isnt bad too. The place is verry close to Central London, if you travel with tube.

Hampstead would be a good choice, but the rent is quite expensive. Hampstead is near Camden but it is quite a posh place. The flats wouldnt bee tooo expensive. But its a peaceful place to live in coz its in a hilly place and nice parks there. Its easy to travel to central london from there, but would take good 1 hour or something to get to knighstbridge.

(if you walk a feww blocks from there, you can make loads of celebrity friends.)

Id recommend you chose to live somewhere in the East as the rent is quite cheap, its easy to travel toCentral London, and the area is quite trendy and fun.

(Stratford, Islington,Bethnal Green,Aldgate,Ilford,Mile End,Poplar, (DALSTON-VERY GOOD, trendy area with good pubs))

Some places in the west is quite cheap as well

    (Kilburn,Holborn(many students live there),Ladbroke Grove, Oval,Notting Hill,Royal Oak,Tuffnell Park..)

The place i would completely discourage you to go, is the SOUTH.. places like Lewisham, the crime rates are high there.(it is home to most of the black community in london)

I reccommend you google up the places i recommend..

    Hope that helped man :D
