Best Point Guard in the NBA; Rajon Rondo making a strong statement this season - NBA Feature
In the modern game, every team needs a point guard who can score and distribute the well at the same time, and such has been the impact of these relatively small men over the years that LeBron James recently called NBA a point
guard league.
During the last decade or so, many brilliant one guards have graced the league, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, Chris Paul and Derrick Rose being few of the prominent. That list however has a new entrant and he goes by the name of Rajon
Rondo. The Boston Celtics PG has played with the level of unselfishness which separates him from the bunch. In a shortened season of 66 games, Rondo has emerged as the best facilitator this league has to offer.
During this season, Rondo has entered in to the Celtic folk lore by breaking the 56 year old record Bob Cousy made by dishing out 219 assists in the month of March and is in contention to break that record the very next month.
He has also joined the all-time NBA greats like John Stockton and Magic Johnson for notching up double digit assists in 20 consecutive games.
However this streak has yet not ended as Rondo dished out 13 assists in a loss to the New York Knicks just last night. As the regular season is winding up, we might also see Rondo surpass Stockton with the longest streak of double-digit
assists.
But do personal achievements matter to Rondo; it does not appear to be the case. If we look at all the NBA Championship teams like the Chicago Bulls, the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Lakers. They did not just win championships
with stars like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant or Tim Duncan. They won championships on these players ability to get the rest of their team mates involved in order for their respective teams to win.
Rondo seems to be following in example as he runs the Celtics offense like clockwork with his tunnel vision and impeccable timings to distribute the ball. From Kevin Garnett to JaJuan Johnson, Rondo has given everybody a fair share
of the ball in order for his team mates to score.
If we look at the season the Celtics have had, Boston might not have been at the point on which they currently stand, had it not been for Rondo. Struggling at the start of the season, the C’s found new life as soon as Rondo got
going.
If we count out the first half of the season, the second half of the season Rondo and the Celtics have had has been nothing short of astounding.
Aside from the assist run Rondo is currently on. He has also managed to get six triple double games this season which includes the history making performance of 18 points, 20 assists and 17 rebounds, a feat only matched by the
NBA greats like Oscar Robertson and Wilt Chamberlain.
Rondo who is usually not known for his scoring exploits can take over any game in no time. He can dribble past defences like they weren’t there. He can go past anybody in the league with his speed. He can take care of the ball
with both hands which makes him an even dangerous weapon on the court for the Celtics.
With the history making season Rondo has had so far. He has set the bar up very high for the rest of the point guards. Even greats like Steve Nash may find it hard to compete against him at the moment.
The playoffs  being just around the corner, Rondo may see some rest in the closing matches but come post season time, we might just see even better performances making the Celtics an even more dangerous team to face in the playoffs.
