Best Possible Replacements for William Gallas at Arsenal
William Gallas the French international, who was one the few solid defenders that Arsenal possessed over the last couple of seasons has now left the club and become a free agent.
Arsene Wenger over the course of his employment enjoyed many benefits from the player, he provided experience and someone to guide the younger players. He may have eventually lost those duties as well but he still served his purpose. Wenger however knows for a fact that he needs to replace the player and find someone who would be able to fill in his shoes.
Wenger has managed to sign Laurent Koscielny from Lorient but he knows that just one defensive signing won’t be enough to see Arsenal lift any trophies this coming season. Here are some players that Arsenal and Wenger could think of recruiting over the course of the transfer window.
Arsene Wenger is reported to have made a bid for Everton’s Phil Jagielka. But he has reportedly been rejected by Everton over the initial fourteen million pound that he made and is apparently willing to make a newer sixteen million pound bid for the player. Phil has been highly impressive all season long with Everton and would be a great addition to the Arsenal squad. He can even play at midfield and this versatility would be greatly useful for the Arsenal squad that usually has numerous midfielders injured at times.
Gary Cahill has been drawing attention from Arsene Wenger for a while now but the twenty million pounds that Bolton are demanding for the player is a little too high for the player. Cahill however is talented centre back whith amazing physical ability and superb tackling, he is six feet two inches tall and is always fairly good in the air. He manages to nick in a goal or two every now and then. All of his talents and skills would be highly useful to Arsenal who might eventually consider paying the amount that is being asked for the player.
Neven Subotic is referred to as the new Vidic from Serbia. The young Serbian has caught the eyes of almost every manager all over Europe and is the prized asset for Borussia Dortmund where he is currently employed. It is estimated that the club is hoping to make around fifteen to twenty million pounds off the sale of the player. He also has scored thirteen goals in three seasons at the club which is a great record for any defender.
Joris Mathijsen may be thirty years old and might not be fitting into Wenger’s youth requirements but he will be able to provide the much needed experience at the back. The defender currently plays for Hamburg who highly value his contributions and would find it very hard to part with the player. He is not a very attacking defender which would make him an even better option since he would constantly provide the cover that is required at the club.
