  1. Not all preschools have the same age cut-off for attending, so that's something you'd have to check with each school you are interested in. For most, she'd need to be 3 by September of the school year, but do look into registration now! Many have long waiting lists and/or early registration.

One good way to find a good preschool is to do a search for accredited schools at http://www.naeyc.org. You can then do a search for each school - most have websites or at least contact information available on the web. Accreditation is a sign of a school's commitment to quality early childhood education. However, the only way to know if a school is right for your child and family is to visit and talk to the teachers there.

Do you know any other families with children the same age as yours? Word of mouth is an excellent way to find a good preschool as well.

  2. You could try http://www.greatschools.net

  3. Most children start preschool around the age of three, so you are looking into this at the right time.  You'll have enough time to really check into some programs before enrolling your child.  Call your local elementary school, social service agencies, and churches and make a list of the programs they tell you about.  Call the programs and ask what kind of license they have, what credentials their teachers have, and what kind of schedule the children follow.  Make sure the schedule includes plenty of free choice play time.  Try to observe a class in progress.  When you have chosen a program, plan to volunteer a little time in the classroom (once a month if you can) so you can see first hand what your child is experiencing.

  5. The way to find the best is to visit them all and observe.  See which one works best for your child.
