  1. Dim Sum (Cantonese) is a must!  This would be a breakfast/brunch meal.  I've gone up to Yank Sing (it's where the non-Asians would go).  Nicer atmosphere, more upscale...food is only so-so.

Breakfast (American): Chloe's in Noe Valley...long lines on the weekends.  French toast croissants with strawberries...yummmm!!

  2. The Farallon is really nice.  Expect to spend bank though.

    Try this..

  4. Well the best Italian restaurants are in North Beach of course! Definitely try Joe Dimaggio's and Calzones. Also there's a really good gelato and canoli shop there..I don't remember the name but its sooo yummy..they have canoli with slices of mango in them! Also try Thirsty Bear..its Spanish tapas (from Spain) and everything has such a unique taste and its all delicious!

Also on Pier 39 there's a bunch of good seafood restaurants and little places to grab something quick..one of my favourites is called French Cafe and they have crepes and pomme frites (the best belgian fries with dipping sauce!)

Ahh..there's sooo many places to choose from..just try as much as you can!

Oops! I also forgot Tommy's Joynt on Van Ness and Geary..its a small comfy place with lots of memorabilia on the walls and ceiling. They have the best buffalo stew and the buffalo sandwich is my personal favourite..mmm! They even have beers from all over the world! Its a fun place to visit with great food and a small price.

And one more I can't forget is a pizza place on Haight St. called All You Knead. It looks kind of small at first, but the pizza is some of the best I've ever had!

  5. for breakfast the st francis ice cream parlor  24th and york

tommy toys is a must for fine asian dining

  6. When we were in San Fran last summer, a local recommended Hyde Street Fish Market & Raw Bar for dinner.

What an awesome recommendation!!  The service was excellent, the menu had a good variety, the atmosphere was comfortable, the food was fabulous, and the creme brulee was unbelievable.

Their prices are not at all out of line either; well worth it & I'd definitely go back.

  7. Best breakfast:

Judy’s on Chestnut at Scott- My favorite brunch place in the city. Huge omelets served with your choice of English muffin, home made blueberry muffin or pumpkin loaf [my favorite]. Order a side of potatoes to share, these are, bar none, the best home fried potatoes in the world.

    Best Seafood:

Tadich Grill 240 California-The Original Cold Day Restaurant: An old boy’s kind of place that has been around since 1849. Great seafood, chops and sourdough. Stiff drinks, no reservations, but counter seats are first come first served.

Farallon – 450 Post- Seafood served in an amazing underwater garden setting $$$$

Hays Street Grill 320 Hayes at Gough. Fresh fish shines at this neighborhood favorite. They specialize in grilling fish and then serving it with your choice of sauces that only enhance the taste of the fish and shellfish.

    Best Chinese

    Chinese

Henry’s Hunan at 674 Sacramento, on Battery at Broadway or between 2nd and New Montgomery and Harrison and Folsom south of Market near the MOMA. - Great Chinese don’t miss Diana’s Meat Pie

Tai Chi on Polk at Broadway has the best General's Tso's Chicken just the right combo of sweet, hot and garlic. They also do really good shrimp won ton soup and sizzling beef and scallops.

Yuet Lee - bare bones Chinese served until 2am.  The calimari is amazing.

Best expensive dim sum is at Yank Sing 101 Spear Street at Mission.

Moderately priced dim sum at City View restaurant on Commerical at Kearny.

Cheap dim sum is Louie's on Stockton at Broadway. Best hargow and pork buns in the city!  Take out only

R&G Lounge on Kerny at Sacramento, good chinese food less spicy, kinder to the tastebuds than the Hunan and Scheshwan food.
