Without content, you cannot expect authority sites such as NY Times or Yale University to link to you.

Everything starts with great content. Focus on creating valuable content that your audiences love and links will follow.

You can spend 10 hours a day exchanging links (or asking for people links) but if you don't have a content that they'd love to share with their audiences, then your efforts are useless.

I agree with backlinks. This is the number one factor that can help improve PR rating for a website. If it is coupled with the right content rich in keywords, it should also be among the high PR websites.

Other's ways of best SEO methods is to read books and develop your understanding of the industry.  A doctor spends 8 years gaining their knowledge, surely it would be worth the sacrifice for you to spend 1 with some financial investment.
