I am looking for a new set of Mens Right Handed Irons

I have good power and low trajectory but I usually shoot around 90. (my short game is awful, but got a very good long game)

I am noticing there are a lot of good deals right now

and was just wondering from fellow golfers what

---

Specifically Callaway, Nike and Taylormade

  1. I've got my eyes set on the Callaway X-20 Tour model.

  2. I would say Titleist. Their cb irons are called cavity backs yet don't have a large cavity at all. I would recommend the 690.cb if you can find them, or the 695 cb. (this years model). The reason I would recommend hte 690's is because they are about 400 dollars cheaper.

690.cb- The Forged 690.CB™ irons provide playability and flighted performance through a progressive weight shelf design. Low weighted long irons are easier to hit and fly with a higher trajectory. Neutral weighting in the mid irons provides conventional trajectory. Traditionally shaped, higher weighted short irons are easy to knock down. A slightly wider sole with a blunted leading edge, moderate camber and a strong bounce angle asset provide outstanding performance in a variety of turf conditions. Forged from 1025 mild carbon steel with a bright chrome finish and traditional black paintfill, the Forged 690.CB irons provide classic good looks, solid feel and outstanding playability.

    695. The Forged 695CB irons feature a unique Z-Cavity design that shifts the center of gravity closer to the face center for solid feel, more efficient energy transfer and consistent launch conditions. Strong lofts provide trajectory control through reduced spin. A precision forging process guarantees consistent head shapes, dimensions and weights through the set, as well as the soft feel and sound preferred by better golfers.

  3. the Nike Slingshots. Theyre the most forgiving

  4. adams idea a2 (not os) - $300

    hope this helps

  5. Like another poster said, check out Golf Digest's Hot List for 2008.

Sounds like your scores are similar to mine, so we would probably fit into the "game-improvement" or "super game-improvement" category.  I've included the links below to Golf Digest's site for each category.

"Iron"ically, I'm getting fitted for a new set of irons next week and I plan on hitting the irons received gold stars from Golf Digest.  I figure this is a good place to start.

    PS - I'm REALLY interested in hitting the TaylorMade R7's & Callaway's X-20's.......Ping G10 as well.

  6. in the last year i have switched from old school ping isi's to last years cleveland cg4.  i love these clubs and just 2 days ago at d**k's sporting goods in dallas, they were onsale for $299..cant beat that

  7. it depends on money if you have some to spend look into some callaway X tours or some pings both good clubs i play the PIng i3+

  8. I actually prefer the standard pitch and length steelshafted Taylormade r7 irons. They have nice feel, and good control. They aren't way overpowered, but you can still get it to where you want to go. I'm sort of a Taylormade junkie though, so I might be somewhat bias =].

If you're looking for new wedges, I suggest the Bob Vokey Titleist ones. They are pricey, but are well worth it. You get exceptional control, and incredible touch greenside.

  9. get the taylormade R7 irons, im using them and they are good!

  10. Get fitted properly. Any club will work if the fit is correct.

See a PGA Professional and have him/her check out your swing and fit you properly.

Henry-Griffitts are the world leader in club fitting.

  11. Golf Digest just came out with the new Hot List.  These are the top recommendations for the latest clubs.  You want to find something in the Super Game Improvement range, such as these gold medalists:

    Adams Idea A3OS

    Callaway Big Bertha's

    Cleveland Hibores

    Cobra S9's

If the latest models are too spendy, check out some of the previous models to these clubs.  Often there is very little difference, but a VERY big difference in the money that you will save!

  12. Wow, what a question.  Ask 50 golfers and you'll get 50 different answers.  Some buy new clubs every year hoping to find that magic set.

Only you can know the right set for you.  Go to a sporting good store that will let you hit some balls with different clubs.  Try out several set and see what you think.

You could also ask some friends to let you swing their, see what you think.

You may also consider used clubs until you find the ones you like.

Rent a set at your local course.

Personally, I think it's a tough decision.  But once you decide on a set they will last for years.

    Good luck.

  13. If you shoot around 90, you should spend the money on lessons, but you won't so buy Callaways. They are good for bogey-ish golfers. Forgiving, higher trajectory. Get motivated and go try them out. I will admit, though, it's difficult to just hit them into a net and hope you can "feel" the difference, rather than also see the difference between each model. Good luck.
