Best Shooter Nominees - Golden Joystick Awards 2011 – Crysis 2, Halo: Reach - Part 3
Bulletstorm and Brink, both tried to push the boundaries and break the trend of the standard first person shooter, with one being more successful than the other, while Call of Duty: Black Ops and Homefront were the other two nominees discussed.
They will be going against one of the best looking video games to have graced the world of gaming.
Crysis 2
Eye-candy, gorgeous, beautiful, refined and any other word that has the same meaning as beauty, Crysis 2 is just as good to stare at as it is to play.
Developed by CryTek studios, who are responsible for the powerful CryEngine which powers the game and published by Electronic Arts, Crysis 2 is a game that every gamer must try at one point or the other.
While its predecessor, Crysis, was a PC exclusive, the developers decided to send their follow up to all the major platforms that were capable of generating High Definition graphics (our condolences to the Nintendo Wii, they really did miss out on this one).
Crysis 2 is not just eye-candy however, as the gameplay matched the stunning graphics. Players could opt to stealthily sneak their way past the Squid and finish the game without firing a single shot, or blast their way through. Both are equally rewarding
and satisfying.
The multiplayer is just as solid and the use of the power suits online really helped add another dimension to the player versus player component of the game.
Crysis 2 did well for itself on the sales charts and earned strong ratings from critics as well which does make it a bit of a dark horse.
Our verdict: Crysis 2 stands a real chance of earning enough votes to, at the very least, challenge BlOps. Multiplatform with solid sales and fan approval, it may just stand an outside chance in the category.
Halo: Reach
No nominee section to the gaming world would be complete without at least one Halo title. This year its Halo: Reach, the final chapter (read, prequel) in the Halo series (or at least that is what the world thought before Microsoft decided to bring it back
to life this E3 by announcing three more parts to the series).
Developed by Bungie and published by Microsoft Game Studios, Halo was emotional, drama filled, action packed, nostalgic and a joy to play. To achieve all those things a game really has to be quite the experience, which by the way Halo: Reach was.
The single player campaign was phenomenal, as the Halo series went back to before the events of the first game and showed how Earth was lost and how the war started. The score was epic to say the least and the multiplayer was of the high standards one would
expect from the Halo series.
Our verdict: All in all if any game can pose a serious threat to Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops it is Halo Reach and the Spartans.
