It depends on the radio and type of antenna connection.  Old style was 300 ohm flat T V antenna wire 6 foot long. Split down the center, send one wire by itself to the side then 180º there's the other wire.  Like a road that has a dead end, turn right (3ft)with one lead turn left (3ft) with the other.  

Or new style: one six foot plain # 22 wire out the back elevated above the radio somewhat.  Tune in the worst station and move antenna around for best reception
