Best Strikers in English Premier League - Part 3
2. Carlos Tevez (Manchester City):
In a time full of primadonna-like strikers who fall to the ground and whine and complain to the referees, Carlos Tevez of Manchester City is like a breath of fresh air. The little Argentine is unarguably one of the most hardworking players currently in the
Premier League and deserves to be at number 2 in this list.
His time at Manchester United was appreciated by the fans, not so by his manager. He used to spend more time on the bench and was introduced for only cameo appearances. The striker thus felt unwanted and handed in a transfer request when his wage demands
were considered too much by the club.
Manchester City, with its cash-laden Arab owner Sheikh Mansour, came calling and the striker changed his allegiances from the red side to the blue side of Manchester. The man from Buenos Aires proved to be an invaluable asset for his new team as his work-rate
there won his fans over.
After a great start to his first season which included a brace against his old employers, Tevez proceeded full of energy and showed no signs of a “World Cup Hangover”. The player in question has bundles of energy and is always willing to run at the defenders,
terrorizing them with his pace and guile. He is one of those few strikers who would run the whole length of the ground to make a chance on their own rather than depending on the midfield to provide for them.
This attribute has helped Tevez throughout his career. With 7 goals so far this season, he is the top scorer in the league and has become the focal point of Manchester City’s push for a Champions League spot as well as the coveted English Premier League
trophy that has eluded them for over 40 years now.
1. Didier Drogba (Chelsea):
Not many people outside of France knew about this Ivorian powerhouse but Chelsea's owner, Roman Ibrahimovic still trusted Jose Mourinho’s judgment and brought the striker to the shores of England. They paid Marseille $38 million for the Cote d’Ivoire striker.
Mourinho’s judgment paid off as the muscular striker scored 16 goals in his 1st season helping Chelsea grab their first Premier League title in 50 years. 2 years later, he won the Golden Boot award for scoring 20 goals and in the same season,
almost helped Chelsea win their first European trophy but they lost the final to Manchester United on penalties.
But that wasn’t the end of it! Last season, Didier Drogba was in the form of his life as he scored 29 goals in the league. This season, he has already scored six goals that include a hat trick again West Bromwich Albion on the opening day. Altogether, Drogba
has so far scored 90 goals in his 173 Premier League appearances and shows no signs of stopping. But, this isn't what the Ivorian is all about.
Controversial he maybe, but he is a key figure at Chelsea with his presence on the pitch helping the club play an open game according to its strengths. Drogba’s stay there has seen him work with 5 different managers but for all five, the striker has proved
to be indispensable. His ability to hold up the ball and command his area gives Chelsea’s game an extra dimension, making him even more valuable. There is no doubt that the out-spoken Ivorian is currently the best striker in England if not the whole of Europe.
Those who didn’t make it to the list:
Now, here is a list of those strikers who are good but still are a long way away from the top 10:
Robbie Keane (Tottenham)
Kevin Davis (Bolton)
Peter Crouch (Tottenham)
Saloman Kalou (Chelsea)
Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa)
Bobby Zamora (Fulham)
