  1. Try Wabasso Beach (Inlet) west of Sebastian, FL. Wabasso's ridge of deep water near shore allows swells to clean up and dump thick in the shorebreak.

This is one of the best areas to surf in FL. It's about an

hour and a half from Orlando. I would suggest one of the new wave boards for this area.

  2. Well, I'm not a surfer, but if you don't mind waiting a few years scientists say that Miami will be flooded due to global warming and that isn't too far.

  3. I would suggest Daytona Beach.  It's about an hour drive, but at least its a decent beach.

  4. You need just a longboard, I live in Saint Augustine and the beach here is great. It's two hours from Orlando but Daytona is good too and it's an hour away. Your mom will love Saint Augustine too. Great history here lots of different stuff from Orlando

  5. Sebastian Inlet, what else? Actually,  Central Fl. has some of the best breaks in the state. Kelly Slater is a Cocoa Beach native! Check the link for details on some good spots. Since you don't live by the ocean, make sure you learn how to swim and handle yourself in the ocean first. Being good in a swimming pool does not mean that you are good in the ocean with rips, undertows and big waves. Then go to a surf shop (a real surf shop, not a bathing suit store that sells some surfboards). They can hook you up with some lessons and even rent you a board to use while learning. You need to learn not only the mechanics of surfing, but also surf etiquette. Then of course, when you master things, a real surf shop is the place to buy your  'dream board' (your dream board, at least until next summer!). Buy a real surf board, not some mass produced 'pop-out', it is worth the money when the time comes. Check the link below. I have been surfing since 1966, and I'll surf forever, (at least until I can't).Go for it. I wish I lived there.

  6. Cocoa Beach and Sebastian Inlet almost always have surf. Maybe an hour from Orlando and worth the drive.
