I've been to morimoto, raw, genji in the city but am looking for another restaurant with great sushi but also a nice environment (for a birthday). It could be in the city, mainline, suburbs, doesn't matter...I really appreciate the help!

  1. blue pacific though its an hour away in lancaster its the best

  2. Teikoku Restaurant

Address:   5492 W Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073

    Phone: (610) 644-8270

If you like the suburbs.  They have Japanese, Thai, and Sushi.  My Asian friends like it.

  3. POD is a lot of fun with amazing sushi (and has great selections for any non-sushi people in your party).  If you have 6+ people, be sure to reserve a POD.

  4. What sort of "nice" atmosphere are you looking for?  Funky, ultra-modern, romantic, traditional...?  "Nice" covers a lot of ground.  (Unfortunately, most of my favourite sushi places are quite lacking in decor.)

If you want something hip and contemporary, try Haru in Old City (241 Chestnut St).

Fuji Mountain in Center City (2030 Chestnut St) has a more traditionally Japanese feel, but still pretty modern.

Out on the Main Line, I recommend Margaret Kuo's Wayne restuarant (175 E Lancaster Ave, right in the heart of Wayne).  While downstairs is Chinese-themed, the upstairs 'Akari Room' features Japanese cuisine & a sushi bar.  Designed by a Tokyo architect and sumptuously decorated, Kuo's is consistently known as the best sushi on the Main Line.

Other nice--but less ostentatious--Main Line restaurants would be Shangrila in Devon, Wabi Sabi Steakhouse in Paoli, Osaka in Wayne, and Fuji Mountain & Samurai in Bryn Mawr.

If you don't mind trekking out to Collegeville, Bonjung (in the Collegeville Station on Third Avenue) is lovely and has *delicious* sushi.
