  1. Matts El Rancho is AMAZING. Definetly try thier Chile Rellenos! AMAZING

  2. We really love Matt's El Rancho on South Lamar.  Especially the compuestas with green sauce and they have a nice Tacos al Pastor plate.

  3. Well, I may be a gringo, but I am a native Texan too.  And I love Tex-Mex.  There are good many places to check out:

Maudies (I still say the best one is on South Lamar)

    Ciscos (East 6th Street)

Tres Amigos (Manchaca Rd. at Slaughter)

  4. My favorite is still El Arroyo's.  Cisco's is good for breakfast.  I don't think there regular meals are that great

I've got a page of Mexican restaurants in town, with a map and a poll to vote on your favorite.

  5. My mom has been in Austin over 35 years and loves El Gallo (S. Congress near St. Edward's University) and Amaya's Taco Village (on 35 near Capital Plaza).  There is also a good little place in south Austin called Casa Garcia (William Cannon at Manchaca Rd.)

  6. Well, so far, it is evident that all of your contributors are gringos.   The best is Jardine's on Pond Springs Road in North Austin or La Margarita's in Round Rock on the west side of I-35. Amigo's all gather at one of these two places when Mama ain't cooking. If you ever get lost and find yourself in Tilden, Texas, south of San Antonio, eat Enchiladas at Max's down by the Frio River Crossing. I still want to move to Tilden ever since I ate those Enchiladas at Max's. If you ever find yourself at Comstock, Texas you won't ever never find you way home again so eat at The Owls Nest and you won't care about ever going home again.  Watch out for the "Hot Sauce" and enjoy their "Comida."

  7. Vazquez has good Tex-Mex. Two locations. One on Braker Lane, just east of 35, and the other just North of the Exxon at Burnet and 183.

I do like the Brisket Tacos at El Mercado, several locations.  Very good!

Joe's Bakery on East 7th Street!!!  Holy cow is their caldo good!!!!  And their baked goods are awesome!  No wonder they're still around after 45 years!

Cisco's on E. Sixth St.  People of all sorts visit Cisco's, and it's a great place!  The beans are excellent!

There's the South 1st Street with 7 restaurants.  Polvo's, El Reyna, just drive down south 1st and you can't miss all the mexican restaurants.

There's Habanero's on Oltorf, very close to South 1st St.

And there's Fuente's on Circle S road in South Austin.  It's across from an elementary school located at South Congress and William Cannon.

Anything that looks Mexican near North Lamar is good.
