I want to take a friend from out of town to a great vegetarian, not necessarily vegan, restaurant in the San Francisco or Sausalito area.

  1. If you don't want to spend the $ at Greens, and you want to come over to the East Bay, then you can check out Udupi Palace -- a  really, really good vegetarian Indian spot on University & MLK.  Not fancy at all, though.  Just good food.

The Cafe Gratitide here in Berkeley is good, and I hear they have one in SF.  Great vegan food in a casual atmosphere -- if you can put up with the schtick.

  2. Here's a link to a directory of vegan, vegetarian, and veg-friendly restaurants in San Francisco:

And in the San Francisco Bay area:

Gaylord is a veg-friendly restaurant in Sausalito (201 Bridgeway).  But it may not be okay for your friend to eat at a restaurant that's not purely vegetarian, so ask him or her.

You should have no trouble at all, as San Francisco has got to be the most vegetarian-friendly place in the world!

    Good luck!

  3. Millenium Restaurant

  4. greens at fort mason

  5. If you're into Japanese cuisine, there is Cha-Ya Vegetarian Japanese Restaurant in the Mission at 762 Valencia St. Also, while you're in the Mission, you could consider the standby vegetarian restaurant, Herbivore, at 983 Valencia Street

  6. Go to Ananda Fuara, it is the best and on market street...

to answer your question in my question: because the government can't tax LSD, the same reason why weed is illegal...  If you have ever been to SF, go to Haight-Ashbury and stop beeing such a nerd.

  7. If you are interested in vegetarian Chinese cuisine, check out Golden Era (http://www.goldeneravegetarian.com/).  I went there with a group of meat eaters (I'm one of them) a little while back.  and all of us enjoyed the food there.  Note: It's in a slighty sketchy part of town (on the border of Union Square and the Tenderloin).

  8. I've been to Green's at Fort Mason..great food and a beautiful location.
