Best Way To Improve 40 time?

I was wondering the the best way to improve your 40 time is besides actually running it which is a given. Any exercises, or agilities you know will definetly help, Im running a 4.76 going into my Junior year and I wan to cut it to atleast a low 4.6 high 4.5

  1. I know the exact answer to this question.

    Squats.

    Work on your starts, put weight on your ankles and practice starting with extra weight and then without and you will see dramatic improvement.

    Practice running technique. Run with hands flat and open like your trying to cut something, lol. Allows no air resistance.

My coaches had us do what was called the dot drill.  It consisted of five dots on the the ground.  The spacing is up to you however the farther apart they are the harder it is.  The pattern looks like the five side of a dice.  I would recommend putting the outer four dots about 4 foot apart the last dot goes in the center.  Jump from dot to dot going from the outside to the inside to the next outside to the opposite outside to the inside to the last outside and then back to the first.  Like an hour glass shape. Jump that pattern on one foot as fast as you can and go through it five times then switch legs.  We would do that for about five minutes.  It helps build quick powerful burst of energy making you run faster.

  4. Well one thing you could do is just work technique...work on starting stance and shooting ur back leg through...resistance work helps too.

  5. I heard that you should do isometrics.( pushing against an immovable object). That helps the legs contract faster. Speed isn't how strong your muscles are, but how quickly they contract.


  6. SQUATS!!! SQUATS!!! SQUATS!!! This is the best workout for you forty time. The power comes from your legs, it only makes sense to make them more powerful. It maybe best to seek professional advice on how to go about training you quads as not to over do it, but thats my advice man. Hope this helps.

    not only try to run faster
