Question:

Best Way to Transport 20Litres of Water?

I love the taste of water in a near-by city, that I visit daily during the majority of the year, but I only visit weekly during the summer. At my house, I have well water, that is nasty tasting (IMO). So I decided, when I go to visit a family member's house weekly, I can fill up a water jug.

However, since I only visit here once a week, I need the ability to transport large amounts of water. In the neighbourhood of 20litres.

Thanks,

  2. You failed to tell us 'how' you travel, hehehe... and that will have an impact on how you transport the water.

If you have a truck, or van, obviously, you could use a large tank.

If traveling by a small vehicle, I would consider using 2 liter bottles (like those used for soft drinks, or milk)... making them easier to load/unload by hand, into the vehicle.  You'd have an advantage too, in that you could take them right out of the vehicle, and place them right into cold storage, without needing to change containers.  By the way, if you have a choice in the matter, a 'wide mouth' bottle will fill faster, hehehe.  Here in the USA, you can purchase empty 1 gallon containers, to be used just for this type of thing.  (One gallon being about 3.78 liters)

As to your own well water, consider installing a 'whole house' water filter, with a charcoal filter.  This will help improve the taste/clarity of most water.  They're fairly easy to install, and don't cost too much.  I routinely install these for customers in a variety of situations... to improve water quality in rural wells, and even in city homes.

Another thought -- you might consider having extra containers.... leave them with your friend, and perhaps they would fill them for you, as they have time, and then all you'd need to do when visiting, is swap empty containers for the full ones.  AND, in a pinch, you might have them shipped to you via package delivery - though I'd think that might be cost prohibitive to do on a regular basis, hehehe.

(I'd offer to pay my friend something for their efforts and using their water too, every so often)
