What is the best way to travel while touring around Europe? I heard that the train system is pretty good but would it be better to rent a car?

  1. I would highly recommend taking the trains, at least for your first trip.  Riding the trains in Europe can be an exhilarating experience, and few things get you closer to the people of Europe than hanging out on a train with them.  Trains are conveniently scheduled, reasonably priced (with a rail pass), and go almost everywhere.

But if you're looking to cover a long distance (Greece to Spain, for instance), fly there.  There are many low price airlines that will take you longer distances for much less time and money than the train.

Driving is really not that bad as long as you stay out of the larger cities, but it's really only cost effective if you have 4+ people.  Fuel and tolls jack up the price of a rental car so much that for most people it makes much more sense to just ride the train, and fly when necessary.

  2. if i were u i would take the train becuz in certain place in europe such as the netherlands the streets r so crowded ppl bicycle a lot. so i would definately go w/ the train!

  3. i wouldnt rent a car, the streets are to crowed and you will struggle to find parking. the train system is awsome and you can get to where ever you want when you want. plus if your tired you can sleep on the train, you cant sleep behind the wheel of a car.

Depending on where you want to go Busabout is also a cheaper option www.busabout.com. they are a hop on hop off bus service that stops at most of the popular destinations in europe as well as a few well kept secrets. the bus comes past every second day and its up to you whether you hop on ad go to the next destination or stay a bit longer.

hope this helps, fell free to drop me a line if you want to know more.

  4. Driving in Europe is not fun, they are maniac drivers and its hard to navigate in cities with the lack of signs and driving lanes. It will stress you out! Train is the method to travel through Europe. All cities have train stations in they're centres so its easier to go from point A to point B and its stress free. You could alternatively take a bus but they're uncomfortable, slow and hard to sleep on.

  5. Definitely train! They go everywhere and are fast. Plus European drivers are crazy. Plus flying is really cheap around Europe too!

  6. well people sorry but:

depending on where he wants to go, to rent a nice small car is not the worst option. In case you travel just from one big city to the other and you feel unsafe with driving there - take the train!

but if you want to see the real Europe, visit of the track places and you are a good driver - take a car ! If you get tired, have a break where ever you want!

And the signsystem on European streets and in cities is excellent ! Just learn it and you will see.

Depending on where you want to travel, check the gas prices and if you want to use roads you have to pay a fee. It takes a lot of money here and there.
