I am 18, have a job, and want to get my Personal Pilot's License. How much money should I save up before I start flying regularly just to get me started and for me to be ahead of my income?

  1. Its going for about $6,000. Go to your local airport and see if they have school. There is financial aid. Also you can go the "pay as you go" route. The hours in ground school are only about $400 The rest is airplane rentals and flight instuctor.

  2. The best way financially speaking is to look around for a flying club at a local airport or Air Force base once you get in. It will generally save you about 20% over a regular flight school. Costs run about $6-7000 for everything right now. Plan on it taking about 6 months on average. You must complete a minimum of 40 hours of flight training (more like 60 will be needed), ground school, written exam, flight physical and check ride.
