Question:

Best Wireless Mic for Sony HandyCam?

I am taping my best friend's wedding vows. I only get one chance at this, so I want to buy a mic now while I still have 2 months to test it all out.

We are using an old Sony HandyCam (dcr-trv240) and we use Hi8 tapes.

She is not expecting much at all, but I still want to do the best with what I have!!!

SO - I NEED EITHER A LONG CORDED MIC THAT WILL WORK WITH MY CAMCORDER, OR PREFERABLY A WIRELESS MIC THAT WILL WORK WELL FROM ABOUT 15 FEET OR CLOSER.

I tested the microphone from my PC on my camcorder and it works well, but it does have some very loud background noise.

Anybody tried it on their cam? It must be "powered" (2 stripes on the jack, not one)

THANKS TO ALL :-D

  1. I don't know what you mean by it must be "powered"... but this Audio Techica

Should meet your requirements. Good wireless mics will be in UHF (VHF is OK, UHF is best). Since you will be so close with the base station (and camera, diversity is not necessary (but if you can afford it, it will be better in keeping interference out of the audio stream).

If the mic says it is in FM, 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz (or 2400 MHz) or 5.4 GHz (or 5400 MHz), do not get them. Yes, they will be cheaper - but they are in a "Shared" band and are subject to interference from garage door openers, home cordless phones and wifi computer networks...

I use Shure and Sennheiser wireless lavs - and I don't think you want to spend that kind of $...
