Question:

Best advanced snorkeling in cozumel?

I'm planning to visit Cozumel via cruise ship for a few hours (8am - 5 pm), so my time will be limited. Do any experienced snorkelers know of a good place with little or no people, lots of coral & fish and low waves?

I've been snorkeling for years and I'm looking for more than just the tourist areas. Some place where my underwater camera can really be put to use. Thanks!

  1. the state park is cool.

  2. Call 1-888-862-3806 for help booking.

They will give you ideas for fun too like:

Definately the Swim with Dolphins, this is fantastic especially if you go to Dolphin Discovery on Isla Mujeres, as you have a 40 minute boat ride there and back with open bar and entertainment.

The Captain Hook Pirate ships are another fun thing to try.

A Jungle tour through the mangroves, with snorkelling over the Coral reefs.

If you´re into diving, then Call Ben Mooney at http://www.mayanaquadive.com as he knows some great dive sites.

Xcaret is a wonderful day out, as you get to enjoy an ecopark, with dolphins, turtles ect and then get to watch probably the best show in the whole of Mexico at night.

A catamaran trip with http://www.cancuncatamarans.com is a must, a day sailing and snorkeling, with buffet lunch on Isla Mujeres, open bar, a shopping trip and the chance to have your picture taken holding a live shark.

At night, try the Cancun Party Hopper, there are now 2 different versions going to different bars, and they are great fun.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Anything on the west shore is not going to have waves.  Chankanaab has TONS of fish but also many people; not that it bothers the fish any.  Coral reefs are a bit broken down from the hurricane that hit 2 years ago (Wilma?)  Same goes for Playa Mia.  If you want coral and deeper water then you need to get on a snorkel boat.  When you get off the ships there are boats wanting to book you to take you out to some of the reefs, at a nearby pier.  If you get others to go with you you will get a break on the price.

This website has some excellent info for cruisers who only have a day to spend on Coz; am including a link to their recommendation of the best snorkel boat as well:

  4. I recommend you take a boat excursion out to one of the coral reefs
