Best air freshener to use?

I have two dogs, and my house can get a little stinky. :( I can't really afford to rip up my carpet and put in the hardwood floors I'd love to have. Even though I keep the house relatively clean, the odor is embarrassing when guests come over. I don't notice it any more, but just got back from a one week vacation. When I got back, I could tell that it smelled bad, but usually I don't notice it b/c I'm used to it.

What product do you recommend to freshen the smell in the house? What is best to use? I have used febreeze on the carpet, but I don't know if it has helped or not, b/c I'm used to the smell in the house again.... b/c when you are exposed to a particular smell for a long period of time, you actually stop smelling it.

What products have you had good experiences with? What works best to get rid of the bad smells and give a nice, fresh scent to the room?

  1. Use an empty spray bottle and mix half and half water and white vinegar. Spray the carpet with the mixture and let dry. That will remove the odor from the rugs. You could also sprinkle baking soda on the rugs... leave for about an hour then vacuum up. Either will get rid of the smell in the rugs. If there is still some odor then Lysol sprayed straight on the rug is good for getting rid of odors.
