  1. .243 without a doubt.

  2. Im with osto, thats what I use. More than enough power to to take out a deer at close range to long. Ive seen em taken out at 600+ with a 270, though thats a little past my ability.

  3. While I personally prefer the .30-'06 cartridge because of its extended range capability and stopping power, many of my hunting friends prefer the Remington .223 (NATO 5.56mm) because of its lower cost.

  4. i always use .270 cal 130 grain.  no complaints.

    edit

    i used a .243 for many years.  i liked it.  but  i had several deer, that were hit, run off a long way before dropping.  it was hard to find some of them.  it is a shame to hit one and have it get away.  my .243 made me a better marksman, because i knew it had to be a nearly perfect shot, to bring the deer down.  my .243 was finally stolen in a burgarly.  i bought the .270 then.

    not much problem like this with the .270.  and it is not overpowered for the job either.

  5. G'day mate i would go the 270,7mm08, 308, 30 06.But i do use a 308win 150gr core lokt.and there isn't much more difference between the 30 06 and the 308.The 30 06 is about 100 fps faster than the 308 and the 06 have more verity on ammo.cheers mate

  6. If all I were going to do was hunt deer, I would choose one of the ultralight bolts in a short action in 7mm/08.  A Remington model 7, or Ruger ultralite with a 20 inch barrel.  This caliber will reach out to 250 or better, and still be more gentle on the shoulder when benching at the range. 140 grain bullets would be the best.

  7. .270 or 30-06.  Either way you cant go wrong for deer hunting. The .270 is a tad bit flatter while the 30-06 is more versatile and better on heavier game down the road if you choose to go that way eventually.

  8. My 2 first choise without a doubt would be the 243. or the 270.

  9. OK,......here is your non typical answer:

    If i were to only own one rifle to hunt with I would have to choose the 30-30 or 30-06. This is why;

       Both of these calibers offer accerorator rounds. Remington has been producing sporting ammunition loaded with .30 caliber sabots (containing .224, 55-gr. bullets) for the .30-06, .308 Winchester and .30-30 for several years. They named this sabot-loaded ammunition "Accelerators." This was an appropriate name, since this ammunition produced velocities two to three times the normal velocity obtained from bullet-loaded ammunition for these calibers. Remington reported a muzzle velocity of 4,080 fps for the .30-06, 3,770 fps for the .308 and 3,400 fps for the .30-30. The idea behind the "Accelerator" was to provide the hunter a practical means of taking small game with a large caliber rifle, without destroying all the eatable meat. In effect, the hunter was using high-speed .22 caliber bullets, fired from a standard .30 caliber rifle. This worked particularly well when the hunter wanted to carry just one rifle. By carrying both .30 caliber ammunition and sabot-loaded ammunition, the hunter had the equivalent of two guns-in-one.

    Unfortunately, Remington discontinued the manufacturing of these rounds but not for any safety concerns.

    I have a guy who reloads ammo do mine.

  10. 30.06 Langer range and great stopping power.

  11. Remington .25-06.
