Best and Worst Draft Picks by Teams during the Past Decade -NHL Special Part 3
Buffalo Sabres (Northeast Division)
Buffalo Sabres have been working towards improving their team and have done a lot during the past few years. Last year, Buffalo changed their entire management as Pennsylvanian billionaire, Terry Pegula, purchased the struggling club and invested heavily
in every department.
Sabres showed a great starting run during the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL), but fell out of the playoff race once again, but just by an inch this time as they were just three points away from the eighth number spot with 89.
Best Draft Pick in the Past Decade: Tyler Myers (2008)
Tyler Myers has got to be their best overall pick of the past decade and is definitely taking over a leadership role on the squad. Picked as the 12th overall during round-one of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, the 22-year-old defenseman has proved his
worth for sure.
In his opening season, he potted 48 points (11 goals, 37 assists) in all 82 games played. Myers had some injuries to face last season which limited him to just 55 games, but the young defender definitely has a bright future ahead of him.
Derek Roy (2001), Jason Pominville (2001) and Dennis Wideman (2002) are also some great additions that Buffalo has made over the years, but all they require now is utilising that talent in order for them to become a better team.
Ryan Miller was picked back in 1999 and could not have been better for the Buffalo Sabres. The goaltender has evolved into being named of the best ever to have graced the sport and continues to lead the Buffalo Sabres in good times and bad.
Worst Draft Pick of the Past Decade: Artem Kryukov (2000)
Being picked up as the 15th player back in 2000, Buffalo just practically wasted their first round selection as the player never even came to North America. He continued to play in the Russian Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and still does to
this day.
Not just that, Buffalo had the bad luck of selecting all Russian players (3) during 2000 and not having any one of them play in the North American major league ever. That just goes to show that no matter how hard you try, some players will just not change
their minds and could end up costing you big.
This year, Buffalo has the 12th overall pick, which makes it exciting to see who they will select this time around.
