Best and Worst Draft Picks by Teams during the Past Decade -NHL Special Part 6
Chicago Blackhawks
Chicago Blackhawks have been one of the, if not the most successful teams when it came to entry drafts in the past decade, which ultimately showed when they captured the Stanley Cup back in 2010 for the first time in over 40 years.
For them, the past few years have been monumentally successful and the talent they have managed to grab from the pool of players is just outright amazing.
Best Draft Pick of the Past Decade: Jonathan Toews (2006)
Now their captain, Jonathan Toews has just emerged as an amazing player in all fronts. He knows how to lead the team and can perform himself when needed. He gives it his all each and every night and despite a few injuries, the 24-year-old native of Winnipeg,
Manitoba, Canada, just cannot be stopped.
Toews was picked up as the third overall back in 2006 by Chicago and already has 324 points (144 goals, 180 assists) to his name in 361 games played over the past five seasons. He is consistent and also led Team Canada back in 2009-2010 during the Olympics.
Another player worth mentioning is definitely Patrick Kane, who they picked up back in 2007. Kane is a phenomenal centre player and is a former first overall selection. He is not far behind Toews as at all with 369 points (126 goals, 243 assists) in 399
games played.
To this date, Kane has missed just 11 games in the past five seasons, making him a golden player in any standard.
Worst Draft Pick of the Past Decade: Mikhail Yakubov (2000)
Chicago Blackhawks invested their 10th overall pick back in 2000 in the name of Mikhail Yakubov, but unfortunately, things just did not work out the way both stakeholders planned them out to.
He finally made the cut for Chicago during the 2003-2004 season, playing 30 games put able to just pot eight points (1 goal, 7 assists). Blackhawks put him back in the American Hockey League (AHL) with their affiliate club, the Norfolk Admirals, for the
next season but upon returning, he played even worse, forcing Chicago to let him go.
Yakubov saw his last gig in the NHL with Florida Panthers back in 2005-2006 in which he played 13 games and had only one assist to his name, after which the NHL just became redundant for him in all ways possible.
