Best and cheapest places to stay in Vancouver BC?

Question

myself along with two other friends will be in the area for a couple of nights, and we're looking for a place to stay. we're high school students, so money is an issue. we're all 18, and we just want a place that's cheap, and in an area where there's some cool things to do close by.

anyway we can stay in the downtown area on the cheap? we want city life

and what's the deal with hostels?

Hey I stayed at the YWCA hotel,

which is situated in Vancouver's down town in a safe location, Its in the heart of Downtown, Its very cheap for the location it's in, there are plenty of things very close by to see, go and do. staff very friendly and helpful, nice clean fresh rooms. Next door is a Bar and Grill which is cool too if u want food and drinks just a stone throw away, also the shark club is 2 mins too which is popular lively sports bar and club,

When I was young and living in the Everett area of WA, we used ot make a run for the border on the weekends to enjoy the lower drinking age they had there.

We found a place called the Cambie Hostel which is in the gas town area of Vancouver.  It was very reasonablly priced  at the time and included a round of pool, and breakfast in the morning.  The best part was that it was above a bar, so we didn't have to walk very far to get a good drink.  It was hostel style, but because there was a few of us, we always had a room to ourselves. Please keep in mind that this was over 10 years ago, but it looks like it's still around. Good luck!

I ALWAYS stay at the YWCA when I go over to the mainland for concerts. It's right downtown and the prices are completely reasonable.
