I'm just starting pointe and I'm not sure how to sew the elastic and ribbon on...I saw a video online how to sew the ribbon, but not how to sew the elastic. Tips? Videos? Anything? lol :)

  1. push the back of the pointe shoe down until it is touching the inside sole of the shoe. The sole shows how far apart the elastic is sewn onto the back. i always fold the elastic over so I don't have a raw edge

  2. first off talk to your teacher about how they would like your elastics, but here's the way I do it.

first put on the shoe hold one end of the elastic one pinkie finger away from the back seam on a diagonal, then mark around the elastic so you know where you should sew it. the easiest way is to sew the elastic to the out side of the shoe but it looks nicer sewn on the inside but it's the same thing for both ways. so after you have it positioned where you want it, sew around the 3 sides a couple of times the same way you did the ribbons. then after one side is sewn, pull the other end of the elastic to where you want it, this is where you need to talk to your teacher, you can either use 2 pieces of elastic and make a criss-cross, or  you can only use one piece and just go from one side of your foot to the other side. either way you just do the same thing that you did with the fist end, but if you do a criss-cross you will want to put the other end of the elastic just slightly behind your ribbons.

  3. go to your library & look at ballet books , i read one & it told you how to do it =P good luck!

  4. pull the back of the shoe down so that it is touching the inside sole of the shoe. make pen marks where the creases are. sew the elastic behind the pen mark and the ribbon if front.
