  1. Brown's Bay is nice, I have a sister there.

Generally the south of Auckland is a bit rough, but there are some nice areas as well.

  2. All of Auckland is pretty bad - wouldn't reccommend it.

  3. I think that Takapuna on the North shore is the best place to live, its only 15mins drive into the city, you have the beach and great restaurants and bars, good shopping and if you have children there are great schools.  I lived there for a year and felt like i was on Holiday everyday.  There are other beaches on the north shore that are great too.  Also Parnell, Newmarket, Remuera and Epsom in central Auckland are very nice upmarket places to live.  Ponsonby is a great neighbourhood, its close to the city and has a lot of good bars and restaurants.  Also Misson bay and Saint Heliers are very nice places to live.  Also if you have a family Howick, Eastern and Bucklands beach are great quiet places to live with good schools.

I would avoid Glen innes and Panmure and most of south Auckland, also some of west Auckland can be a bit ruff.

  4. It really depends what you are looking for really. Are you single/a couple/with or without children? How much are you willing to spend on rent or living expenses? What kind of hobbies do you have? To generalise, South Auckland is not a very nice place to live in however there are really nice areas there, you just need to find them :) I live in Auckland central which is a neat place to live in, but we are only 2 so it suits us fine. Nice areas in Auckland are East Auckland (Howick, Bucklands Beach), the North Shore (Takapuna, Browns Bay), Ponsonby or Mission Bay. Let me know if there is any more info you need, would be glad to help as I live in Auckland.
